About the role

Flower runs renewable energy assets at the edge of what's technically possible. Our traders make decisions in seconds, our IoT devices stream telemetry from sites across Europe, and our data and AI systems sit in the middle of it all. The platform that enables these workloads has to be fast, reliable, and a joy to build on. That's where you come in. As Staff Platform Engineer you will set the technical direction for how Flower's platform evolves, with a particular focus on DevOps, SRE, and developer experience. You'll work alongside the Head of Platform and a team of platform and data engineers, and your customers are the product squads building Flower's trading and AI systems. Your job is to make them faster, safer, and more productive. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll write code, design systems, mentor engineers, and shape practice across the group, without formal management responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction across the platform engineering group, raising the bar on architecture, code quality, and operational excellence.
  • Drive Flower's DevOps practice and scale it across all product workloads, including CI/CD on GitHub Actions, deployment patterns, and release safety.
  • Treat the platform as a product. Understand the pain points of our trading, AI, and product squads firsthand, and prioritise platform investments accordingly.
  • Own and evolve ECS & EKS on AWS as a first-class workload platform, including service templates, autoscaling, networking, and developer tooling.
  • Own and evolve Modal as a core compute substrate for batch jobs, agents, and trading-adjacent workloads.
  • Partner with our Platform Engineers to stand up Flower's SRE practice, including on-call, incident response, SLOs, and operational readiness.
  • Support observability work on Grafana Cloud alongside the engineers who own that domain today.
  • Mentor platform engineers across the group / squads.

Requirements

  • You have 8+ years of engineering experience, with meaningful time spent as a backend or product engineer before moving into platform or DevOps work. You know what a bad platform feels like from the inside, and you care about fixing it.
  • You have led technical work across a group of engineers, whether as a tech lead, staff engineer, or principal. You set direction without needing a manager title to do it.
  • You have strong, hands-on experience operating production workloads on AWS, particularly ECS or EKS. You're comfortable with task and service design, autoscaling, deployment strategies, and networking.
  • You have practical experience with managed or serverless compute platforms such as Modal, Lambda, or Cloud Run.
  • You have deep DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD design (GitHub Actions or similar), release safety, progressive delivery, environment strategy, secrets handling.
  • You have solid SRE fundamentals: on-call design, incident response, SLOs and error budgets, postmortem culture.
  • You're comfortable with infrastructure as code (Terraform), Linux, and networking fundamentals.
  • You're familiar with observability stacks (Grafana Cloud, OTel, or similar) and can partner credibly with the engineer who owns that domain.
  • You've worked in a scale-up or growth-stage engineering org and you're comfortable with ambiguity, fast iteration, and small high-trust teams.
  • You're collaborative, low-ego, and you bring others up around you.
  • 📍 Location
  • Our beautiful office is located in the heart of Södermalm, just a short walk from Slussen subway station. We encourage in-office collaboration but support a hybrid work model.
  • ✉️ Apply
  • Our corporate language is English, as we have about 30 nationalities in the office. We therefore appreciate it if you could submit your CV in English.
  • Throughout the recruitment process you will meet with the Talent Partner, the Head of Platform, our Product Manager, the Team for a live-coding and system design case, and the VP
