About the role
To assist the Marine HR Manager in the efficient management of marine personnel operations, ensuring vessels are properly manned in accordance with company, client, statutory, and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Marine HR Manager supports crew planning, personnel administration, client communications, staff supervision, and special projects while acting as the primary backup to the Marine HR Manager. Roles and Responsibilities Crew Operations Management Monitor fleet rotation plans and ensure timely crew reliefs across assigned vessels. Supervise and serve as back up to Managers to ensure efficient execution of crew changes, travel arrangements, and joining preparations. Ensure company and client database are updated in a timely manner Review manning status of vessels and identify potential shortages or relief risks. Coordinate Dry Dock projects, vessel start-ups, technician mobilizations, and special manning requirements. Escalate operational concerns that may affect vessel operations to the Marine HR Manager. Travel and manning agency invoices are processed and approved in the system. Crew Planning and Manning Compliance Ensure vessels are manned in accordance with company, client, flag state, MLC, STCW, DMW, DGS and other applicable requirements. Review qualifications, certifications, endorsements, and compliance requirements prior to deployment. Monitor crew availability and succession planning for key positions. Assist in promotion assessments and career development planning for officers and crew. Staff Supervision and Performance Management Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to Crew Managers and Marine HR personnel. Monitor workload distribution and operational performance of assigned staff. Conduct regular team meetings to review crew rotations, recruitment status, vessel requirements, and ongoing projects. Identify training needs and recommend development initiatives to improve team effectiveness. Client and Stakeholder Coordination Maintain regular communication with vessel management teams, clients, manning agencies, and other stakeholders regarding crewing matters. Ensure timely response to client requests and operational requirements. Assist the Marine HR Manager in resolving crew-related concerns, disputes, and service issues. Support new client implementations and vessel transitions. Promote and comply with the Company's "Safety & Environmental Policy" and any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Company. Knowledge & Experience Education : 4-year course graduate, business or maritime preferred. Experience : At least 2- year staff experience in manning company required. Experience in shore side Human Resources for a cruise line/ship management company or previous shipboard experience working onboard a vessel. Knowledge of positions within the Marine (D&E) Department onboard a passenger vessel preferred. Knowledge of STCW and MLC, 2006 preferred. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written knowledge of the English language.
