Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on TBM mechanical systems, including pumps, grinders, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs to restore equipment to full functionality.
- Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.

- Work with fitters, engineers and supervisors to implement long‑term corrective actions.
- Adjust, calibrate, and fine‑tune mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Inspections & Monitoring
- Conduct routine inspections of TBM and tunnel equipment to identify wear, leaks, misalignment, or potential failures.
- Monitor equipment performance and report abnormalities promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and tunneling best practices.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure safe operation of tools and machinery.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free work area.
- Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with Mechanical Foremen, TBM Operators, Electricians, and Fitters to support continuous tunneling operations.
- Assist with TBM maintenance during scheduled shutdowns, cutterhead inspections, and major mechanical interventions.
- Support shift‑based operations, including nights and weekends as required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanic, Welder or Pipe Fitter in heavy industrial, mining, tunneling, or construction environments.
- Trade certification or apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline (e.g., Heavy Equipment Technician, Industrial Mechanic, Millwright, Welder) is an asset.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, rotating equipment, pumps, and heavy mechanical machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
- Experience with TBM systems (EPB or slurry) will be mandatory
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all site regulations.
- Must be willing to join the local union as required.
