We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Project Engineer Electrical to join us in our ID - Major Projects team in Brisbane on a full-time permanent basis. Reporting to the Program Manager NE, you will play a key role in delivering electrical, instrumentation and controls engineering scope for gas‑fired peaking power plant projects, from early design through construction, commissioning and handover. The role ensures compliance with engineering standards, supports construction and commissioning activities, and manages interfaces with OEMs, contractors, network service providers, and other internal and external stakeholders. This role is a site‑based position during the construction phase, typically working on a 2‑weeks‑on / 1‑week‑off roster. At APA, the Major Projects team forms a key part of the Infrastructure Delivery function, responsible for delivering some of APA's significant large‑scale and complex infrastructure projects. The team oversees end‑to‑end project execution from early planning and design through to construction, commissioning, and handover ensuring our assets are delivered safely, efficiently, to appropriate engineering and operational standards. Working closely with technical specialists, OEMs, contractors, and stakeholders across the business, the Major Projects team plays a central role in supporting APA's growth and long‑term energy infrastructure strategy. Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant standards, NER requirements, and project specifications (SLDs, protection schemes, HV/MV/LV systems, SCADA, earthing, etc.).
- Manage end-to-end electrical project delivery including planning, cost estimation, procurement, and coordination of OEMs, contractors, and balance-of-plant interfaces.
- Oversee construction activities by providing technical guidance, reviewing contractor documentation, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and design standards.
- Drive testing and commissioning activities, including FAT/SAT, grid compliance, and resolution of electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues.
- Act as key technical liaison across stakeholders, including project managers, consultants, OEMs, and contractors, delivering clear reporting and technical communication.
- Ensure strong focus on safety, risk, and compliance through WHS adherence, risk assessments (HAZOP/HAZID), and maintaining accurate engineering and audit documentation.
- Your background
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 10 years' experience in the construction, installation and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems on large energy infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering principles
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills to coordinate engineering activities effectively.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, standards, and specifications.
