About the role
General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world's lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States. Our mission is to restore America's ability to produce nuclear fuel-fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors. Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society. We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency. Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable. About This Role As a Specialist IT/ICT Designer , you will play a pivotal role in designing the secure digital backbone of a state-of-the-art enrichment facility from concept through commission. You will design, analyze, and implement high-security Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems that meet stringent government regulatory requirements for classified data handling, physical security, and TEMPEST/TSG compliance. You will work on a greenfield and brownfield projects, collaborating with architects, electrical engineers, and security specialists to develop detailed telecommunications and network infrastructure designs. This is an exciting opportunity to solve complex connectivity problems at scale, managing secure network distribution within a dynamic, high-stakes industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop detailed ICT and low-voltage systems, including classified/unclassified network distribution (SIPR/NIPR/JWICS or equivalent), secure server rooms, and telecommunications spaces.
- Prepare design packages up to Permit level in Revit, ensuring seamless integration of horizontal cabling, backbone pathways, and rack elevations.
- Own the design and coordination of specialized shielding, secure containment (PDS), and grounding systems required for restricted government data networks.
- Coordinate pathway requirements (conduits, cable trays, and underground duct banks) with structural and mechanical disciplines to ensure system survivability and separation.
- Ensure compliance and code review utilizing BICSI standards, TIA/EIA, and specific government security overlays (e.g., ICD 705, NISPOM, or UFC requirements for classified facilities).
- Collaborate with MEP and Nuclear engineers to ensure facility power budgets, cooling requirements, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigations are met for sensitive IT equipment.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for network infrastructure and signal integrity issues during the commissioning phase.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- 8+ years of industry experience in ICT/Telecommunications design or Low Voltage systems.
- RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- 5+ years in professional settings specifically focused on secure facility design, SCIF construction, or government classified data environments.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to meet project milestones.
- Preferred Skills and Experience
- Evidence of exceptional ability in designing complex, high-reliability network infrastructures for the AEC industry.
- Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment requiring a resourceful approach to complete secure facility designs within tight timeframes.
- In-depth knowledge of physical security integration, including Access Control (ACS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) for restricted areas.
- Expertise in BIM/Revit workflows specifically for telecommunications and low-voltage modeling.
- Prior experience with data centers or high-density computing environments where uptime and security are mission-critical.
- Knowledge of TEMPEST/EMSEC countermeasures and shielded enclosure design.
- Equal Opportunity Employer
- Compensation and Benefits
- The base salary range for this role is $90,000-$175,000 annually.
- Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, t
