Responsibilities

  • Assists in at least one of the specialty areas including Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Oncology Clinic, TPN production, operating room and the Employee Prescription Center in accordance with CHW policies and procedures.

  • For sterile product preparation, utilizes aseptic technique and is knowledgeable of USP 797 guidelines. Is able to meet any required competencies per USP 797 guidelines.
  • Prepares and delivers unit dose medication cassettes to their respective units. In delivering medications to the units and beside, interacts and communicates with patients, families and other medical personnel appropriately.
  • Handles narcotics according to policy and procedures. Provides information to aid in the resolution of any discrepancies.
  • Effectively prioritizes workload based on meeting and exceeded internal and external customer expectations.
  • Assists in daily functioning and maintaining of inpatient and outpatient automation of pharmacy technologies and troubleshoots, if necessary.
  • Process patient admissions, discharges and transfers according to policies and procedures.
  • Stocks pharmaceuticals in the inpatient, outpatient and satellite areas. This includes ordering of medications, checking for outdates, and cleaning of the respective areas. Performs inspections of medication rooms, clinics and code carts as assigned

Requirements

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required; one year of pharmacy tech experience in an inpatient hospital setting required
  • Current status as a Pharmacy Tech I required
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong proficiency in mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and proportions at a level normally acquired through completion of high school.
  • Ability to read and write at a level where the candidate can review and update patient profiles, as well as understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and customer relations skills are needed to communicate effectively with various hospital personnel and families and to gather and exchange factual pharmaceutical information.
  • Ability to work well under pressure due to time constraints and varying workloads.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. This is required when packaging medications, preparing IV solutions, maintaining records and many other functions requiring accuracy.
  • Ability to operate a computer in order to generate lists, process medication orders, enter charges/credits, generate labels, retrieve patient information, and handle automated dispensing unit functions.
  • License Pharmacy Technician (41) - State of Wisconsin required
