The Physical Science series (1301) has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): Basic Requirement: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The Chemistry series (1320) has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR). Basic Requirement: Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. or Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience for the GS-13 Supervisory Physical Scientist/Supervisory Chemist includes: Advanced knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and analysis for substances to which workers may be exposed. Knowledge of and experience developing methods to be used for the collection of industrial hygiene samples. Knowledge and/or experience with OSHA chemical exposure standards. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with others in completing complex projects. Demonstrated ability to follow laboratory policies and procedures.
