About the role

The Program Manager - Brazil will support the day-to-day management and execution of the BMS Foundation's grant portfolios in Brazil across two signature pillars: Adult Cancers (MLCCP) and Pediatric Cancers and Blood Disorders (HOPE) . The Program Manager will work closely with grantee partners and internal Foundation teams to ensure effective implementation, strong compliance, high-quality reporting, and continuous learning across the portfolio. This role is central to maintaining operational excellence, partner trust, and accountability for results.

Responsibilities

  • Program Implementation & Grant Management
  • Support implementation of multi-year grants, including workplans, milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for grantees on operational matters, coordination, and troubleshooting.
  • Support the Foundation's grant approval and decision-making processes, including preparation of internal review and board materials.
  • Review grantee reports and budgets and make recommendations regarding grant payments, budget reallocations, and no-cost extensions, in accordance with Foundation policies and approval authorities.
  • Compliance, Risk & Operational Oversight
  • Monitor and support grantee compliance with Foundation policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and branding guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation within grant management and reporting systems.
  • Escalate risks, issues, or compliance concerns to the Program Director as appropriate.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
  • Track progress against program objectives and performance indicators across the MLCCP and HOPE portfolios.
  • Review and analyze grantee data to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support implementation of monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks and contribute to synthesis of findings and lessons learned.
  • Grantee Support & Capacity Strengthening
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with grantee partners through regular communication, virtual engagement, and in-person site visits.
  • Identify grantee capacity needs and recommend technical assistance, tools, or learning resources to strengthen implementation and organizational performance.
  • Support learning collaboratives and peer exchange across grantee partners.
  • Convenings, Communications & Reporting
  • Lead planning and execution of site visits, learning convenings, workshops, and partner meetings.
  • Draft program updates, reports, presentations, and briefing materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular (e.g., monthly or quarterly) activity and progress reports to the Program Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in public health, social sciences, or related field preferred.
  • 3-6 years of experience in program or project management in healthcare, philanthropy, public health, or nonprofit settings.
  • Experience working with NGOs, hospitals, academic institutions, or health systems in Brazil.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
