About the role

St Catherine's College proposes to appoint a six-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Engineering, with effect from 1 October 2026. The Lecturership will be for one year to cover a period of sabbatical. The Lecturer will be expected to teach six weighted hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year (the College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour). College teaching is in small groups (usually two or three students). The post-holder will be responsible for teaching: all modules of the first year P3 course: Statics I, Statics II, Mechanics of Materials I, Mechanics of Materials II, Mechanics of Materials III, Bending and Torsion I, Bending and Torsion II, Dynamics I, Dynamics II (1P3A, 1P3B, 1P3C, 1P3D, 1P3E, 1P3F, 1P3G, 1P3H, 1P3J) all modules of the second year A3 course: Elastic Analysis of Structures, Mechanics of Materials I, Mechanics of Materials II, Classical Dynamics, Transmission of Motion, Mechanical Vibrations, Structural Failure I, Structural Failure II (2A3A, 2A3B, 2A3C, 2A3D, 2A3E, 2A3F, 2A3G, 2A3H) all modules of the third year B2 course: Teamwork and Project Management, Technology Strategy, Project Financing, Engineering Sustainability and the Environment, Safety and Risk I & II, Engineering Ethics (3B2A, 3B2B, 3B2C, 3B2D, 3B2E, 3B2F, 3B2G). The postholder will provide tutorial sessions and revision classes for the above modules. In addition, as a member of the team of Engineering tutors, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Engineering in the College, including arranging tuition in Engineering, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates. The annual stipend for three terms is currently £16,905 and is pensionable. The Lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled, free of charge, to five meals per week (three of which may be lunch) during Term and the Entrance Period, and one lunch and one dinner per week outside Term. A shared room for the purpose of teaching will be available.
