Behavioral Health Triage Clinician - Full Time - Evening Shift

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology.
• Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
• Two (2) years of experience in crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment, and/or psychiatric evaluation.

• Conducts psychiatric assessment for patients as necessary/requested. Triages patients to other clinical services based on assessment.
• Utilizes the psychiatric administrator-on-call and the on-call psychiatrist for clinical support and recommendations and involves psychiatrist in psychiatrically and/or medically complicated cases.
• Provides support/intervention with family members and collaterals of patients seen in the Emergency Department.
• Assists in or conducts bed searches to facilitate patient placement.
• Maintains contact with Emergency Department and medical floor staff to ensure timely and responsive assistance in managing flow of behavioral health patients.
• Makes clinically sound and appropriate recommendations and disposition plans.
• Assists others in assuming assignments, which are being transferred to them.
• Responds in a timely fashion and is helpful with requests/pages from Emergency Department.
• Ensures necessary insurance authorizations are in place prior to service delivery or transfer to another level of care.
• Documents assessments and outcome/recommendations at time of service delivery. Maintains log of contacts, tracks and collects data on services provided.
• Manages workload in a productive and efficient manner.
• Submits charges for services provided within time frame.
• Shows commitment to meeting the needs of customers, both internal and external.
• Verifies insurance eligibility and documents. Uses this information to make appropriate decisions regarding status of active cases and consults.
• Builds and maintains productive and positive working relationships with co-workers.
• Provides education, support and direction to medical staff to improve/facilitate care of behavioral health patients.
• Communicates effectively with involved staff regarding status of active cases and consults.
• Physical Requirements:
• Frequent sitting, occasional standing & walking, and lifting of 5-10 lbs.
• Requires manual dexterity, using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.
• Ability to see computer screen and reports.
• Skills & Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and diagnoses.
• Familiarity with psychopharmacology and common medications for medical diagnosis.
• Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with patients and staff of all levels.
• Excellent critical thinking skills, good judgement, decision-making ability, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills.
• Adaptable and open to accept criticism or changes with a positive attitude.
• Knowledgeable about available community resources for patient population.
• Takes initiative when opportunities are identified.
• Ability to handle conflict, give and take criticism.
• Maintains sensitivity, maturity, and flexibility in coping with difficult situations.
