Director, Legal Counsel / Directeur(trice), Conseiller(ère) Juridique

Responsibilities

• Providing legal advice and expertise to the company specializing in real estate, leasing, franchising, and regulatory compliance, and other corporate and commercial matters
• Monitoring and advising on applicable laws and regulations relating to the business including but not limited to privacy, CASL, Bill 96, Law 25, and information technology and cyber security, ensuring ongoing compliance
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of contracts, including but not limited to leasing, vendor, franchise, technology and service contracts
• Managing external legal counsel, including engagement strategy, cost management and quality of advice
• Anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the organization
• Developing strategies to achieve efficiencies and reduce potential areas of risk.
• Supporting governance and compliance activities, including policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
• Qualifications & Experience
• Admitted in good standing with the Quebec Bar
• Must have 10+ years strong real estate and leasing and corporate and commercial experience gained either in private practice or in house
• Previous exposure to the retail landscape, including familiarity with franchising, marketing, merchandising, supply chain, employment law, information technology and cyber security, and public company compliance requirements, would be strong assets
• Strong judgement, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels
• Proficiency in English and French (spoken and written) is required. The incumbent must regularly collaborate with teams located outside Quebec and consult technical documentation written in English.
• Occasional travel between Montreal and Toronto will be required.

• Gérer les relations avec les conseillers juridiques externes, notamment en ce qui concerne la stratégie des mandats, la gestion des coûts et la qualité des conseils fournis
• Anticiper et atténuer les risques et enjeux juridiques potentiels au sein de l'organisation
• Élaborer des stratégies visant à améliorer l'efficacité opérationnelle et à rédui

Hybrid: Longueuil, Quebec Job Description: Job Summary Location: Longueuil, (Québec) - Greater Montreal Area Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel & Secretary, the Director, Legal Counsel will be a key contributing member to the legal team, providing high quality legal advice and guidance to Les Franchises Chico inc.'s Quebec-based operations, and generally supporting Chico's affiliates' legal affairs company-wide as assigned. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the business, leading complex legal matters across corporate and commercial affairs, with significant focus on real estate, leasing, franchising and regulatory compliance, as well as contract negotiations, information technology and cyber security, employment and more. This role requires excellent proficiency in both French and English, both spoken and written. The ideal candidate will be located in the Greater Montreal area.
