Position Title: Academic Champion Job Description: HINDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE Job Descriptions JOB TITLE: Academic Champion REPORTS TO: Director, Upward Bound Math &Science JPS South DEPARTMENT: Title III & Sponsored Grants EXEMPT: No VICE PRESIDENT: VP Hinds CC - Utica Campus GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The Academic Champion will be located at each target high school during the academic year and will report to the project director and the target school administrator. It is expected that a faculty member at the target school, who has succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population, will serve in the role of ensuring close communication with all stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Master's Degree Desired ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices. Located at target school during the academic year. Serve as liaison for Project Director and target school administrator. Conducting workshops for students, parents, community, and other related entities. Screening applicants for participant eligibility. Referral of ineligible students to appropriate or alternative services. Maintain participant files. Meeting with Project Director and target school principal regularly. Conducting participant follow-up surveys. Participating in in-service meetings. Coordinating project activities to achieve program goals and objectives. Serve in the role of ensuring close communication, progress monitoring of participants, and will provide appropriate strategies for the "Check & Connect" Mentoring program. Must have knowledge of Dual Enrollment/Credit programs. All other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Public relations, marketing, advertising skills. Positive customer service skills. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No Supervisory responsibilities are required.
