Central regional Hospital, a state psychiatric hospital located in Butner, NC, is seeking full time Health Care Technician II to function as a Therapeutic Support Specialist II Mentor on our Forensic Minimum (FMIN) Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to monitor patients and perform technical procedures (within scope of practice). Responsibilities include but not limited to: assisting patients with activities of daily living, obtaining vital signs, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, assisting with hospital/unit -based programming, engaging patients in behavioral activities, & following ordered patient care. All healthcare duties are delegated by and completed under the supervisor of a Licensed Nurse. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade: MH02 Salary Range: $32,444.00 - $48,665.00 *Limited-Time Sign-On Bonus for CNAs (Nursing Department Only) Total: $15,000 - Receive $4,000 in 1st paycheck following start date - Receive $5,000 after 12 consecutive months - Receive $6,000 after 18 consecutive months For a limited time period, DSOHF is offering increased sign-on bonuses for eligible Nursing Department positions, including health care technicians (CNAs) and patient-facing nursing roles who apply between June 1st - August 31st, 2026. Bonus is only available at State Psychiatric Hospitals and does not apply to administrative, educator, or non-direct care nursing positions. Installments are paid in accordance with requirements outlined in sign-on bonus agreement. Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Nurse Aide I listing by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. (If applicants are not NA I certified and are selected for a position, training will be offered by the hospital. However, certification must be obtained, and employee must pass all facility required training as a condition of employment.) Knowledge of principles and practices of a certified nursing assistant (including bio-statistical data such as vital signs, lab work and specimen collections) Knowledge of patient interactions involving behavioral, physical and medical interventions (within scope) Ability to work with behaviorally difficult patients while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment Conditional Requirements: Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR certification within 60 days Valid driver's license This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. The normal work hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday with alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled, however flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement.
