POSITION OVERVIEW: The House Supervisor (HS) - Northern Campuses serves as the point person for bed control and for receiving requests for ER admissions, direct admissions, in house transfers, and transfers in and out of the Prineville, Madras, or Redmond facility. They also oversee house-wide clinical staffing functions. This position also serves as the on-site administrative agent in off-hours and in the absence of administrative personnel. The HS is a role model and mentor for staff by applying standards for professional nursing practice and focuses clinical care to enhance the experience for patients, families, and all others while functioning in alignment with the leadership approach of St. Charels Health System (SCHS). This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Coordinates and integrates resources throughout the facility. Problem solves on a daily basis utilizing appropriate resources. Communicates concerns to nursing leadership, Duty Administrator, and Medical Staff as appropriate. Monitors the overall capacity status of the four St. Charles Health System campuses. Coordinates with Environmental Services and clinical leadership to facilitate efficient bed turnaround times. Identifies risk management and/or practice issues and processes appropriately. Maintains awareness of budgetary targets and manages resource utilization to meet targets. Manages and monitors surge in volume or acuity in inpatient and outpatient departments including the Emergency Room. Mentors staff on their respective shift including giving feedback and participating in performance coaching. Provides performance feedback to appropriate managers as needed. Acts as a resource for organ donor process. Acts as requesting / approving authority for ordering of specialty clinical equipment (i.e. specialty beds via Norco) to ensure that internal resources are appropriately utilized as first line options, collaborating with clinical leadership as appropriate. Performs patient rounding with clinical and patient satisfaction focus and uses the AIDET model for all interactions. Performs department rounding assessing for needs and challenges in all departments and works with the appropriate teams to resolve any issues. Supports the processes surrounding emergencies, codes, and disaster management. Serves as point of contract to media and law enforcement. Coordinates staffing functions in absence of staffing analyst and collaborates with clinical leadership to ensure appropriate staffing. Coordinates inter-facility patient transfers with Transfer Center staff and assures timely and appropriate patient transportation. Understands and ensures compliance with state, federal, and Joint Commission guidelines related to patient transport, transfers, and admissions. Monitors transfer request calls for EMTALA compliance. Assigns or delegates to others nursing measures which the caregiver is prepared to perform and qualified to perform and are within that person's scope of practice. Supervises others to whom nursing interventions have been assigned or delegated. Maintains and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and applies this knowledge in accordance with SCHS policies and work instructions and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon. Maintains working knowledge of labor contracts and state and federal labor / staffing laws. Assesses the patient's condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment: sets outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient's/family's physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient's progress. Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with SCHS policies and procedures for medication administration. Demonstrates awareness of and supports SCHS departmental and operating unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.
