About the role
We are seeking an experienced and capable Senior Registrar in Emergency Medicine to join a high-performing Emergency Department in a central London teaching hospital. You'll be working in a fast-paced, supportive environment that sees a diverse range of acute presentations, from high-acuity trauma to complex medical and surgical emergencies. As part of a well-structured middle-grade rota, you will play a key role in maintaining safe, efficient flow through majors, minors and resus areas, while supporting junior doctors and ensuring timely senior review.
Responsibilities
- Lead the assessment and management of acutely unwell patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Work flexibly across majors, minors, resus, and rapid assessment zones.
- Support and supervise junior clinicians (FY/CT levels) and Advanced Care Practitioners.
- Participate in clinical decision-making, patient flow coordination, and referrals to specialty teams.
- Contribute to departmental teaching, audit, and quality improvement projects.
- Ensure safe handover and effective communication across shifts.
- Uphold Trust values around patient safety, dignity, and clinical excellence.
- Essential:
- Full GMC registration with a current licence to practise.
- Minimum 6-12 months NHS experience in Emergency Medicine at Registrar/Middle Grade level.
- Competent in managing resuscitation cases, acute medical and trauma patients.
- ALS / ATLS / APLS certification (current or recently expired).
- Strong communication and leadership skills under pressure.
- Desirable:
- MRCP / MRCEM (or equivalent)
