Role Purpose This role provides strategic legal leadership for AbbVie's global artificial intelligence (AI) regulatory, policy, and contracting framework. The position exists to ensure AbbVie can safely and compliantly scale AI across jurisdictions by anticipating regulatory developments, establishing enterprise policy, and enabling cross-border deployment of AI technologies. Scope & Impact Global (OUS) scope across all business functions and geographies Leads global AI Governance, regulatory, and policy development strategies Serves as primary legal authority on AI regulatory and policy matters for Global markets (OUS) Advises senior Legal, Compliance, and business leadership Individual contributor with significant cross-functional and executive influence Core Duties & Responsibilities Monitor, assess, and interpret global AI regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, and other international regimes, e.g., China, Japan, Australia, and Brazil) and advise on business impact Lead development and maintenance of enterprise AI legal policies, standards, and governance frameworks Partners with Privacy legal team to guide cross-border AI deployment , including data transfer, localization, and compliance obligations Develop and maintain AI contracting standards , including model clause for: Data usage and training rights Liability and indemnification Transparency and regulatory compliance Draft, review, and negotiate complex AI-related agreements (vendor, data, and strategic partnerships) Partner with Government Affairs, Compliance, Privacy, and Ethics teams to align on enterprise AI policy positions Support executive leadership and Board/Audit Committee briefings on AI regulatory developments and risks Advise on high-risk or novel AI use cases and strategic initiatives Proactively identify emerging legal and regulatory risks and define mitigation strategies Required Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent and active bar membership Minimum 5 + years legal experience Deep expertise in technology law, global regulatory frameworks, and data privacy Demonstrated experience advising on cross-border regulatory issues Significant experience negotiating complex technology and AI-related agreements Strong executive communication and advisory skills
