About the role
The Corporate Security Manager is responsible for providing physical security governance and subject matter expertise to the Canadian business divisions, applying standards, and ensuring compliance with controls, policies, and processes. This is a key role in ensuring Aviva aligns with all regulatory requirements for securing the organizations physical security buildings, assets, business, and personnel. Responsibilities
- Accountability for delivery of security services, security strategies, standards, and governance.
- The Corporate Security Manager is part of the wider Canadian Corporate Security Leadership team and has a role in supporting and leading the Group Security Standards, Controls, Policies, and assigning findings to the team.
- Driving improved value, SLAs, and management of possible 3rd party contracts in the security team.
- You have a keen appreciation of the importance of risk and controls and can effectively conduct control testing and report gaps to management for remediation.
- Ensuring that annual location security reviews and/or analysis are completed throughout the year while assigning, managing, and governing findings or improvements to different business divisions.
- Work with Security Service Vendors to complete Preventative Maintenance across the various business locations by reviewing the documented reports and governing the risk levels and outcomes.
- Proactively find opportunities to improve effectiveness and improvements of risk identification and management of policies and processes to manage the risks in new initiatives.
- Be involved in the development of the technology road map and implementation of Security tools to support the physical security team's business needs.
- Proactively find opportunities to refine our processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our function.
- Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
- Provide specific focus and expertise to protect Aviva from the risks associated with terrorism (both local and foreign), malicious intrusion.
- Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with all collaborators; guests; regulatory bodies and team members.
- Build and maintain documentation (incl. reporting as needed) on control processes and events; includes a regular periodic review and sign-off of documentation to keep content accurate and current.
- Able to be on-call with the Duty Manager rotation for escalations, and business impacts after-hours.
- Take on with the team Travel Security and Executive protection responsibilities and actions for our People, and to satisfy any of our current controls.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in corporate physical security within a large, complex organization, including operating at a managerial level or equivalent formal qualification in Physical Security Management.
- Proven experience developing, implementing, and managing physical security programs and systems across multiple locations or jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of physical security risk management principles, threat landscapes, and controls within a large enterprise environment (preferably financial services).
- Demonstrated experience managing security incidents and leading complex investigations into physical security breaches in a complex enterprise environment.
- Ability to assess risk, make sound decisions, and deliver effective security solutions in fast-paced, high-pressure, and time-sensitive situations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously while meeting short timelines and business demands.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage all levels of the organization and translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable insights.
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities, with a track record of driving performance and developing team effectiveness.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
