About the role
Since 1843, The Economist Group has championed independence, excellence and openness, helping people understand and tackle the critical challenges shaping the world. Today, we are building on that legacy as a global media and information-services company powered by digital innovation, analytical rigour and evidence-based insight. Across our three businesses - The Economist, Economist Enterprise and Economist Education - we deliver trusted analysis and insights to individuals and organisations in more than 170 countries. United by a shared purpose to drive progress, we empower decision-makers to make sense of change and chart a course through an increasingly complex world. As a colleague, you will be part of a culture that values ideas, encourages ownership and holds itself to high standards. We invest in people who are curious, thoughtful and adaptable, whether they are launching new products, reporting on global events or harnessing emerging technologies such as AI to improve how we work. Here, fresh thinking is taken seriously, ambition is matched by integrity, and great work is recognised. Working across disciplines, geographies and perspectives, we are united by a commitment to innovation, excellence and creating meaningful impact. The Economist is the leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs. We deliver world-class, thought provoking content through a range of formats, from web and app, to newspapers and magazines, conferences, film and audio. What ties us together is the objectivity of our opinion, the originality of our insight and our advocacy of economic and political freedom around the world. With a growing global subscriber base and a reputation for insightful analysis and opinion on every aspect of world affairs, The Economist is one of the most widely recognised and well-read current affairs publications and the foundation of our digital consumer product portfolio. We are developing a world-class product and design organisation and have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Product Designer based in London to help us design exceptional web and mobile app experiences that drive subscriber acquisition and retention. We are looking for a Junior Product Designer to join our e-commerce and subscriptions product area, with a focus on helping us improve acquisition and retention. You'll be part of teams that are helping to drive anonymous users to register, converting non-subscribers to paid subscribers, optimising checkout flows and encouraging self-serve account management. You'll work in cross-functional teams of Engineers and Product Managers, with support from more Senior Product Designers. You'll produce end-to-end user experiences and create design deliverables ready for engineering. Your work will uphold The Economist brand digitally, maintaining our high bar of visual quality whilst ensuring technical constraints are considered to create intuitive user flows. You'll be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience across different parts of the design process; for instance sketching, creating prototypes and working through different levels of fidelity. From user research to wireframes and user flows through to testing and validation-you'll develop into a rounded product designer with coaching and guidance from more senior members of the design team. You'll be supported by a friendly and inclusive design team who have the autonomy to define and improve processes and care deeply about developing each other's capabilities.
