EliteAI-generated questions, company research, and talking points tailored to this role
Responsibilities
- Design analog printed circuit assemblies (PCAs), including high-voltage (RF and DC) amplifiers and power supplies for LC/MS instrumentation.
- Perform circuit simulations, create schematics, and lay out PCBs for new product introductions and sustaining engineering.
- Build and verify prototypes hands-on in the lab using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and soldering tools.
- Lead design reviews for your work and incorporate feedback from peers and the lead Electrical Systems Architect to ensure clean integration into the complete instrument, including system control and on-board diagnostics.
- Execute verification testing on prototypes and complete systems to demonstrate instrument performance and regulatory compliance through the transition to manufacturing.
- Author clear technical documentation-block diagrams, theory of operation, simulation results, and test reports-at each phase of product development.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists (chemists and physicists), mechanical engineers, embedded software/firmware engineers, hardware quality, product support, and manufacturing across an approximately 50-person LC/MS R&D organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years of relevant experience designing precision analog circuits that include high-voltage (RF and DC) amplifiers or power supplies. PhD candidates graduating in 2026 with a research focus in high-voltage (RF and DC) circuit design are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience designing for analytical, scientific, medical-device, or other regulated/precision instrumentation; direct LC/MS experience is ideal but not required.
- Proven ability to own a design from early investigation through prototype build, verification, and successful transfer to manufacturing.
- Strong test, measurement, and documentation skills with high attention to detail and the ability to solve multidisciplinary, system-level problems.
- Demonstrated expertise in design for test (DFT) and design for manufacturing (DFM) for robust, high-volume production.
- Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams (R&D embedded software, hardware quality, product support, manufacturing).
- High-voltage circuit design knowledge, including familiarity with clearance, creepage, and insulation practices aligned to standards such as IPC-2221 and IEC 60664-1.
- ECAD design tools: Siemens Xpedition, Mentor DX Designer, Altium, Cadence, or equivalent.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout experience for mixed-signal, precision analog designs.
- Circuit simulation experience with LTspice (and/or PSpice).
- Low-level digital interfaces: SPI, I²C, UART, and similar communication protocols.
- Programming experience in Python for test automation and data analysis.
- Component selection and lifecycle management.
- Hands-on lab bring-up and verification using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and soldering equipment.
- Preferred / Plus Skills
- Direct experience designing analog, mixed-signal, or high-voltage electronics for LC/MS or comparable analytical instrumentation.
- Additional ECAD/signal-integrity tools: HyperLynx.
- Additional simulation tools: Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, CST Studio Suite, ModelSim.
- Additional programming languages: C/C++, MATLAB, SCPI.
- Advanced lab instrumentation: spectrum analyzer, VNA, logic analyzer.
- Cross-functional NPI experience partnering with quality and product support on shipping-instrument maintenance and field readiness.
