Our Spanish Language Arts teachers believe that literacy in Spanish is a powerful tool for identity development, academic success, and cultural affirmation. This role centers bilingual and multilingual learners-particularly students who are native or heritage Spanish speakers-by strengthening reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in Spanish. Spanish Courses at DSST Middle Schools: Spanish Language Arts (SLA) Role-Specific Responsibilities Teach sections of Spanish Language Arts (SLA) to students who have demonstrated readiness through baseline Spanish proficiency data Build students' literacy skills in Spanish, including reading comprehension, writing, and analysis Use culturally relevant texts that reflect students' identities and experiences Collaborate with ELA teachers, ELD teachers, paraprofessionals, and school leaders to support students' access to rigorous academic content Leverage students' native language to strengthen overall academic achievement across content areas Adapt instruction to meet the evolving needs of heritage Spanish speakers and multilingual learners At DSST Public Schools , we are proud to achieve transformational results for our 7,500+ students - 97% of whom attend a Green (top-rated) school. Responsibilities

• Promote Positive Culture: Employ DSST culture and support systems while validating students' cultural identities. Actively promote a unified and positive classroom and school culture. Cultivate and maintain trusting relationships with students and families.
• Pursue Professional Development: Engage in professional growth opportunities, including regular coaching, feedback, and development, with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
• Contribute to School Community: Undertake additional duties as needed, such as supporting student recruitment, running a small group advisory class, after school tutoring, etc. Explore more potential duties here .

Requirements

• Minimum:
• Bachelor's Degree in any field
• Demonstrated content knowledge (known as in-field status) via various qualifications ( see qualification options here )
• Fluency in Spanish
• Ideal:
• Proven commitment to and experience with serving students of color, students with disabilities, and/or multilingual students
• Experience teaching Spanish Language Arts, bilingual education, or supporting heritage Spanish speakers
• Knowledge of and/or experience implementing strategies that accelerate language acquisition
• A Colorado teaching credential is preferred but not required for most opportunities

POSITION: Spanish Language Arts (SLA) GRADE LEVEL: Hiring for both middle school and high school positions LOCATION: DSST: College View Middle School. You can view the current openings at this link. SALARY : $60,000-$78,000 based on aligned years of experience up to 10 years. We also offer a relocation stipend for anyone joining us from 75 miles or more from Denver!
