The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer I's in minimum-custody facilities, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Positions may at times be the highest ranking custody staff on the grounds or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Positions report to a Correctional Lieutenant I and/or a Correctional Assistant Superintendent. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Reporting directly to the Lieutenant I, this position will provide supervision for subordinate officers regarding their assigned tasks with male offenders. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. - Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms. - Accounting for persons and ensuring that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. - Rotating and various duty assignments within the defined level of work. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range: $37,377 - $65,408 This job posting will close at 11:59 pm, the night before the end date listed above. About the Division of Institutions : The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
