Job Description : Wakefield Surgery PA The Surgical Physician collaborates with specialty physicians and surgeons in the pre and post operative care of surgery patients. Physician Assistants are part of a multidisciplinary team but function independently with physician oversight, and are responsible for patient education, evaluation for transplant pre and post-surgery care and discharge education. Responsibilities include: Perform admission history and physical examinations for inpatients/clinic patients Evaluating new patients as well as post-operative and routine follow up patients in clinic and/or inpatient setting First Assisting in the operating room Making daily rounds and writing progress notes Ordering and interpreting diagnostics test and labs Developing a treatment plan for general surgery/vascular conditions within the scope of practice and in conjunction with attending surgeon. Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care Pre and post-operative care Responding to consults both emergent and non-emergent Perform procedures as outlined by DOP (delineation of privileges) form Prescribing medications and other therapies Counseling patients and families regarding care and informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions
