About the role
As the Academic Success Specialist for Student Affairs , you will exercise independent professional judgment and be responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing learning assistance support for the health sciences student population on the Washington State University (WSU) Health Sciences Spokane campus. You will provide guidance to students on developing skills and strategies to enhance learning and academic success. Services will be delivered through individual appointments, workshops, in-class presentations, and the development of materials, including online content and tools for the Interprofessional Learning Commons (ILC) website. You may also assist with the development and implementation of a Peer Tutor training program, as well as support campus-wide outreach for the ILC and its associated services and programs. Percentage Breakdown of Job Functions: 65% Student Programming & Advising 25% ILC Programming Support, Development, & Outreach 10% Other Duties as Assigned Additional Information: This is a full time (100 % FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: $3,750.85 - $4,574.20 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis. Experience maintaining a high level of confidentiality Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards. Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Able to travel, occasionally overnight, to other campus locations and to attend meetings, conferences, and other site locations.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Education, Psychology or other relevant field.
- Experience providing academic support services, learning assessments, or other experience related to academic learning support.
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
- Experience working with health sciences students in a higher education setting.
- Experience in providing academic support for learners when English is not their primary language.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain harmonious working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with varying deadlines.
- Ability to work with diverse students, faculty/staff, and community members.
