Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Industrial Design (ID) to translate product concepts into manufacturable mechanical designs, ensuring design intent, usability, and cost targets are met.
- Lead mechanical design and development, including 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks), 2D drawings, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
- Validate prototypes through functional, assembly, and reliability testing (e.g., drop test, thermal cycling, environmental testing), and drive design iterations based on test results.
- Work cross-functionally with Tooling, Manufacturing, Hardware, RF/Antenna, and Sourcing teams to resolve integration issues, optimize performance, and ensure seamless system-level implementation.
- Drive product development through all stages, including tooling, EVT/DVT/PVT, pilot run, and mass production, ensuring schedule adherence and risk mitigation.
- Define and control mechanical specifications, BOM, and engineering documentation, maintaining design consistency throughout the product lifecycle.
- Optimize product design for cost, quality, and user experience (UX), including material selection, surface finishing, and structural integrity.
- Conduct competitive product teardown and benchmarking, providing insights into mechanical architecture, materials, and manufacturing processes to guide product strategy.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical or Equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Design (sheet metal, plastics, castings, CNC)
- Specializes in waterproof/compact system design
- Thrive in a dynamic, fast-evolving environment with a proactive mindset
- Demonstrate strong emotional intelligence and effective interpersonal skills
- Maintain focus and clarity under challenges with a solution-oriented approach
- Experience with consumer electronics products, including but not limited to networking devices (e.g., AP, routers), smart security products (e.g., doorbells, IP cameras), or access control devices (e.g., smart locks, keypad/biometric systems).
- Experience in injection molding/sheet metal/ die casting "Design."
- Able to communicate effectively in English, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Excellent communication skills to work with cross-functional teams
