The sports reporter position at The Press Democrat produces stories on a variety of sports and sports-related topics, including in-person game coverage for high school, college, and occasional professional events; sports features, profiles and occasional first-person storytelling. Responsibilities

• Produce sports journalism in print, digital and multimedia, on deadline, for The Press Democrat and its related publications
• Travel 12-15 hours per week at heaviest times of sports seasons spent on in-person coverage at games, events and other assignments
• Works with colleagues from the wider newsroom on in-depth/investigative stories that touch on sports
• Use a variety of digital and social media tools to reach a wide and varied audience

Requirements

• Knowledge and competency in understanding a variety of sports played at the high school, college and professional levels
• Ability to write clearly and concisely in a variety of formats, on deadline for a daily publication
• Bachelor's Degree
• At least two years of experience as a fulltime or freelance sportswriter
