About the role
We are recruiting for an exceptional Cell Biologist with strong background in cancer biology , induced -proximity based thera peutics and drug discovery to join a newly established research team within the Ciulli Research Group at the Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation (CeTPD). We aim to develop and validate innovative, rational approaches to arrive at de nov o design of glue degraders for hard -to-drug protein targets, with the goal to accelerate the development of novel cancer therapeutics for patients benefit. The appointed researcher will work as part of a newly established "ACBI -glue team" based within the state -of-the-art laboratories within the University of Dundee's CeTPD ( www.dundee.ac.uk/cetpd ), and associated with the Ciulli research group. The successful candidate s will be expected to develop high-through put cell biology-based assays and screens, including cellular proximity labelling and IP-MS pull-downs, cell -based TR-FRET and split -based assays and MS proteomics, to drive the identification and validation of "glueable" E3 ligase: target pairs across the programme and small molecules screens. The successful candidate will also work closely with other scientists more widely in the CeTPD, particularly within the wider research pillar of Cell Biology. The candidate should exhibit excellent communication and collaborati on skills for working on multi -disciplinary drug discovery teams. Candidate Requirements : A Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular and/or biomedical sciences, molecular pharmacology or a related discipline . Experience with establishing and implementing scalable high -throughput cellular assays and pipelines, such cell -based reporter assay, and adapting them for proteome -wide and/or compound screening. Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, DN A sequencing, and plasmid design and engineering Strong experience in tissue culture: establishment and maintenance of cancer cell lines, transient transfection, generation of stable cell lines using transposon -mediated or viral integration systems and knock -out/knock -in lines using CRISPR -based approaches . Experience in characterising protein -protein interactions (PPIs), using approaches such as proximity labelling (mini-TurboID ), co-immunoprecipitation and co-IP-MS, split -luciferase complementation assays Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Capable of working in a diverse team, but able to plan and work independently. Exceptional time management, organizational and self -motivational skills. An open and collaborative approach to science. Preferred skills: Experience in academic or industrial drug discovery team-science. Expertise in mass spectrometry -based proteomics, including data analysis using R scripting . Prior exposure to projects focused on TPD modalities, knowledge of E3 ligase biology, ubiquitination and degradation mechanisms Interest in understanding pathways and gene regulatory networks that are linked to cancer progression and how research in this area can be exploited to accelerate drug discovery. The position is fixed term until 29 th February 2028. For further information about this position please contact Professor Alessio Ciulli ( a.ciulli@dundee.ac.uk ) The diversity of our staff and students helps to make the University of Dundee a UK university of choice for undergraduate, postgraduate and distance learning.
