Description of Work Want to be part of a unique work experience that saves wildlife and wild places? It's a Zoo here, literally! The North Carolina Zoo is seeking a team-oriented ZooCom Telecommunications Supervisor. This position oversees the daily operations, staffing, and training of the North Carolina Zoo's emergency communications center, ZooCom. Working under the direction of the Emergency Operations Manager, this position ensures operational readiness, maintains CJIS compliance, and coordinates closely with Zoo Police and other departments to provide professional and effective telecommunications, dispatch, and emergency communications support for the Zoo's public safety and operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Manage staffing for ZooCom employees
- Manage CJIS information for audit reviews
- Conduct training opportunities for emergency call-taking and dispatching
- Conduct performance reviews and quality assurance for ZooCom staff
- Maintain programming for portable radio's used throughout the park

- Recruitment Range: $37,377 - $49,000

- APCO / CJIS Certifications and all are active
- Experience as an emergency telecommunicator
- Portable radio programming experience
- Knowledge and skillset using emergency services software programs
- Position/Physical Requirements:
- Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8 hour shifts (weekends as needed)
- DCI Module 1 Certification or ability to obtain within one year
- APCO Telecommunicator Certification or ability to obtain within one year
- APCO Communications Training Officer Certification or ability to obtain within one year
- APCO Communications Center Supervisor Certification or ability obtain within one year

- Minimum Education and Experience
- Minimum Education and Experience High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
- AND
- two years of supervisory experience in security of a large facility; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- May require the ability to complete emergency medical technician (EMT) training and meet re-certification standards as required.
