About the role

The Internal Communications Advisor plays a key role in shaping how employees understand, connect with, and contribute to the Institute's purpose, priorities, and culture. Working within the Communications team, this role develops and coordinates clear, consistent, and engaging internal communications that support organisational strategy and operations, and keep employees informed about Institute activities, priorities and updates, across a diverse, and dispersed, workforce. The Internal Communications Advisor also contributes to building a strong internal culture by highlighting achievements, reinforcing values, and sharing stories that reflect impact and purpose. The role is responsible for providing analytics and insights from internal communications activity and programs, to inform the ongoing improvement of internal communications and activity. The role translates complex information and organisational direction into accessible narratives that help employees understand what is happening, why it matters, and how they contribute. It partners closely with senior leaders and internal stakeholders to ensure messaging is aligned, timely, and delivered through appropriate channels. Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge and Skills: Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, or related discipline Experience working with internal stakeholders within a NFP, health, or related organisation. Experience promoting scientific research or complex technical content to non-scientific audiences. Proven experience in internal communications, change communications, employee engagement, or corporate communications roles Strong written communication skills with ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible messaging Ability to advise senior leaders on communication approaches and messaging Experience utilising internal communication channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, digital platforms) Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Personal Qualities: Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels Strong collaborative mindset with a proactive, solutions-focused approach High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgement in sensitive environments Strong commitment to clarity, inclusion, and continuous improvement in communications practice Terms of Appointment This position is ongoing in a part time capacity (0.5 FTE) . Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 6 ($97,990 - $106,069). Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
