JOB SUMMARY This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job. The Certified Dialysis Technician (CDT) is responsible for directing and coordinating the technical component of operations at the Dialysis Center. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. * Adjusts water connection access in patient care areas to accommodate dialysis equipment. * Assists in training/orienting new staff to the mechanical and technical procedures related to the water treatment systems and equipment setup. * Assists with routine cleaning and disinfection of central and portable water treatment systems. * Communicates observed technical problems to the Patient Care Manager. * Completes annual water treatment system module and competency check. * Coordinates the location of patient therapies with the Resource Nurse. * Develops and maintains an effective stock and inventory system for supplies and forms. * Ensures that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to unit policy. * Evaluates new equipment as directed by management staff. * Evaluates patient arterio-venous blood accesses as directed by the RN. * Initiates the daily machine set-up procedures for mobile acute dialysis therapies. * Maintains a high standard of infection control for dialysis machines and unit environment. * Maintains effective communication with nursing staff, Patient Care Manager and other departmental personnel. * Monitors documents and reports dialysis equipment culture results. * Monitors the need for technical procedure changes. * Obtains and records pre and post dialysis vital signs and weight as directed by the RN. * Organizes and transports equipment to patient care areas. * Performs dialysis machine and water treatment setup procedures as needed. * Performs minor equipment repairs. * Performs other duties that training and certification qualify the employee to perform. * Performs the daily water system and dialysis machines safety checks. * Prepares blood tubes and labels for specimen collection. Transports blood tubes to lab. * Prepares initial patient charts. * Reports patient complaints and noted observations to the R.N. * Reports the need for preventative maintenance for dialysis equipment to Clinical Engineering Staff. * Responds to dialysis machine patient alarms and notifies RN of alarm condition. * Reviews patient treatment flow-sheets for completeness and signatures. * Schedules and monitors the routine disinfection for all equipment. * Transports and stocks dialysis solutions and disposables.
