Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the development and production of selected local language feature films in Japan, including:
  • Evaluating / Developing Period
  • Sourcing or generating original concepts or concepts adapted from existing literary materials for development into feature motion pictures
  • Preparing English creative package and development cost breakdown for submitting Development GL request to region team and home office
  • Preparing Japanese creative package to submit to original rights holder, anticipated director, writer, talent agency, and potential co-investors
  • Reviewing scripts (both adapted and original), treatments, novels and other literary materials and the supervision of writers composing such works for projects whenever necessary
  • Revising and commenting upon concepts in development for feature motion pictures such as giving input on plot, character and dialogue issues whenever necessary
  • Preparing milestone calendar to keep control of the timing to request official production GL request to region team and home office
  • Coordinating with Production Company re: asking producers to submit budget breakdown, production schedule, explaining production guideline, etc.
  • After prod GL / Preproduction Period
  • Coordinating with Production Company to reconfirm budget, production schedule, shooting locations, production guideline, film spec, postproduction studio, deliverables, etc.
  • Attending preproduction meetings (both internal and external) whenever necessary
  • Coordinating with internal departments (video, TV, CP, DD, etc.) and provide necessary Project information
  • Production Period
  • Attending shooting whenever necessary
  • Keeping track of daily progress reports, translating them to submit to region team and home office
  • Coordinating set visits for WB executives, theatrical exhibitors, etc.
  • Confirming postproduction schedule with Production Company including recruited audience screenings, film delivery timing, etc.
  • Postproduction Period
  • Coordinating with Producers, research team of Group Marketing, and sales team to organize recruited audience screenings, and translating results to share with film creators
  • Organizing end roll credits and billing
  • Coordinating with Production company to organize answer print screening
  • Coordinating with Production Company to reconfirm deliverables, and making sure all necessary deliverables are in place for final payment to Production Company
  • After delivery/until release of Film
  • Coordinating with marketing team if there is merchandising such as novelization, comicalization, original soundtrack, etc.
  • Organizing English subtitled screener including checking subtitles, with assistance from Tech Ops
  • Assisting in marketing events such as press conferences, premieres, etc.
  • After Film release/ other routine works
  • Coordinating with video team for video distribution
  • Coordinating with TV team for TV broadcast
  • Coordinating with overseas sales agent (or region team/Home Office) for international exploitation
  • Coordinating with third parties re: distributing stills/footages for exploitation (other than promotional use after video has been released)
  • Preparing agenda for weekly LP Meetings
  • JOB - RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • Education: BA/BS degree or equivalent required
  • Languages: Fluent level of spoken / written English as well as in Japanese.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years of production assisting experience and know-how in Japanese feature film production working 'in-house' for a distribution led co-production/financier.
