About the role

We are the Physical eCommerce Software Engineering team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. Our team is responsible for the GM Global B2C and B2B eCommerce solution for physical products (Parts & Accessories), and provide backend services for the sales of GM Energy Products (Home Charger and Charger Adapters). We collaborate closely with Accessories marketing and CCA businesses driving online sales through our platform, providing an end to end digital and innovative experience at scale while providing meaningful value to our customers through a seamless customer experience. Our main goals are improving the customer experience, driving sales, and expanding our solution to other potential lines of business for physical products with the opportunity to explore Market Place approaches. As a Software Engineering team our mission is to rapidly and relentlessly ideate, iterate, and launch the innovative solutions to connect GM with current and future customers. Our team comprises industry-leading software, quality, dev ops and data engineers, who utilize a variety of innovative development methodologies and technologies to achieve breakthrough results, drive innovation, delight customers, and keep our environments available to help business to achieve revenue goals. We're seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead architectural design, integration patterns, and platform strategy for our eCommerce domain. You will play a key role in defining scalable, governed, and high-performing data solutions across operational and analytical environments, while partnering with engineering teams to ensure successful implementation. You will also be responsible for establishing data standards, improving data quality and observability, and driving root cause analysis and long-term architectural improvements for production data issues. You will be responsible for helping to lead our data and platform strategy through planning, design and architecture, and execution. As a technical leader on the team, you will drive best practices, mentor less experienced engineers, build strong relationships with technical leaders on other teams, and facilitate a strong team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the design, governance, and evolution of database schemas and enterprise data models
  • Define the target-state architecture for data pipelines and integrations supporting Parts and Accessories catalogs, pricing, fitment, and related data
  • Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in existing processes, and design architectural solutions and reference patterns for new capabilities
  • Improve reliability of data platforms and pipelines by reducing incident counts and time to detect/resolve issues
  • Establish standards for data modeling, data lifecycle management, integration design, and platform performance
  • Work with data, development, and operations teams to design solutions and debug complex issues
  • Plan and lead production database and data platform activities with zero disruption or downtime
  • Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in monitoring systems , data quality controls, and observability frameworks
  • Lead efforts in migrating to new platforms and technologies
  • Work closely with junior data engineers to grow their skillsets in architecture, data modeling, and engineering best practices
  • Understand and adhere to Autocare industry standards
  • Initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross functional, and org-wide critical programs
  • Leverage your technical leadership to ensure we adhere to engineering best practices, and evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity and craftsmanship
  • Lead architecture reviews, establish best practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to align data architecture with business capabilities, scalability goals, and future-state platform needs
  • Create and maintain architectural documentation, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models, data flows, and integration patterns
  • Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or related practical experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience with a focus in data engineering
  • Experience with automotive data standards (ACES and PIES)
  • Mastery level proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and one or more modern programming/scripting languages such as Python or Java
  • Mastery in comprehension and application of data architecture standards and design patterns.
  • Mastery of data modeling, data integration, data loading, and data management techniques
  • Expert Knowledge of data replication and/or disaster recovery capabilities
