Responsibilities
- Job Summary:

- PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operational Performance
- -Develops long-term unit staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs.
- -Develops measures and monitors unit operational performance metrics inclusive, agency and overtime costs, vacancy and turnover rates.
- -Oversees the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training and development of employees within the department.
- -Responsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the emergency department.
- -Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all ED and trauma patients.
- -Approach others in a tactful manner and treat others with respect and consideration.
- -Support and interpret policies, procedures, and objectives of the hospital.
- -Monitors customer satisfaction scores and implements plans to improve scores.
- -Monitors patient volume, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement.
- -Maintains a departmental dashboard that includes information and progress on people, service, quality, and leadership
- -Responsible for investigating patient, physician and staff complaints/concerns and works to resolve the aforementioned.
- -Maintains required competencies for self and all employees within the department.

- Clinical Practice/Patient Care
- -Collaborates with the CNO/SVP of nursing to establish nursing care standards and evaluates staff compliance.
- -Identifies protocols affecting the patient population served and keeps nursing staff informed.
- -Demonstrates self-development and keeps currents on a variety of clinical management and health care topics.
- -Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients, family and staff that is conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance; and develops mechanism to assess same.
- -Ensures equal access to treatment for all persons in need regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
- Management
- -Participates in the overall planning process for the service.
- -Conducts monthly meetings with the staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals, and objectives, performance metrics and improvement activities, and any staff concerns.
- Human Resource Development/Management
- -Educates and evaluates staff.
- -Works with nursing leadership/Human Resources to counsel, discipline and terminate staff as needed.
- -Educates staff in new and existing department procedures and systems (eg. Information systems, etc.)
- -Creates and maintains an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff and colleagues.
Requirements
- Required Skills & Experience:
- -Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience of management and/or supervisory in the Emergency Department.
- -Demonstrates leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- -Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- -Excellent creative skills, ideas to improve existing programs.
- -Ability to determine appropriate action in complex situations.
- -Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling work.
- -Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
