About the role

The Community Response Unit (CRU), part of the Sidewalk Program, is responsible for addressing inquiries and complaints related to defective sidewalk, curb, and pedestrian ramps across New York City's five boroughs. With oversight of approximately 12,750 miles of sidewalk, the unit plays a critical role in enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing injuries caused by hazardous conditions. The College Aide position offers an opportunity to support the Sidewalk Program's Community Response unit through administrative support, research, outreach, and creative project work in a collaborative environment. The College Aide will collaborate with staff members and other units to support daily operations and project goals in a team-oriented environment. Responsibilities include researching, reviewing, and closing cases via 311 Dynamics and correspondence through the Agency Response Tracking (ART) system. The position will require performing general administrative and clerical tasks assigned by Community Response Unit supervisors. Additionally, this position will help maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring accuracy and efficiency within the unit. During the summer months this role may also include assisting with and participating in community outreach initiatives, including events such as Summer Streets, Open Streets, and other NYC DOT programs.
