About the role

The Field Inspector is responsible for providing support and conducting inspections and audits on contractor work sites for New York City Transit projects. Monitor nightly/daily construction civil activities to ensure the contractor is compliant with Boldyn construction drawings, engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions. Responsibilities

  • Ensure construction work complies with all construction drawings, engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions.
  • Lead, direct, and provide guidance to the Field Inspection team.
  • Set clear expectations, make informed decisions, convey instructions, and provide feedback to the team.
  • Maintain daily construction reports, including activities and quantities completed, quality issues, changes daily labor time sheets with cost codes, and red line drawings.
  • Monitor installation of POE conduit/s and cabling is done as per drawing specifications daily (night shift or day shift).
  • Assist Construction Managers and Field Supervisor on expediting subcontractors.
  • Assist subcontractors in the field with any upcoming questions or issues.
  • Ensure approved drawings and their approved revisions are utilized in the field as issued by the Engineering Manager.
  • Continually find solutions to conflicts between drawings, field conditions, and specifications by conferring with the Design Engineers. Coordinate these solutions with the various sub-trades.
  • Report accurate quantities for labor cost reports and accurately monitor material ledgers to determine if quantities remaining in the estimate are sufficient to complete the project in the field.
  • Coordinate and participate in inspection requests with Quality Manager, various cell phone carriers, and subcontractors as required.
  • Inspect installation work for conformance with design drawings and specifications.
  • Approve As-Builts of work completed using maintained red line drawings.
  • Ensure work is conducted in accordance with Safety requirements and report any issues to the Boldyn Safety Manager
  • Communicate with on-site NYCT and Subcontractor representatives.
  • Provide access to Boldyn Networks Base Station Hotels and supervision of subcontractors.
  • Monitor Fiber splicing, OTDR and Throughput testing by contractors and prepare reports.
  • Other duties as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Participate in punch list walkthroughs. Prepare punch list and other checklists as required.
  • Lead by example, promoting integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior among the Field Inspection team.
  • Follow MTA and Boldyn incident reporting protocols.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Boldyn safety team in a timely fashion.

Requirements

  • 5 years' experience as a field inspector.
  • Experience working with contractors or inspection consultants is a big plus.
  • Experience in telecom installation and working on NYCT projects preferred.
  • Experience working with NYCDOT and NYSDOT and ECS or Verizon ducts.
  • Availability days, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have analysis, problem identification, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA30 or SST Worker Card
  • NYC Track Safety training preferred/desired but not required.
  • Certification in fiber testing and splicing is a plus but not required.
  • iBwave Certificate is a plus.
  • MTA PGM-123 training or MTA Blue Card holder preferred/desired but not required
