About the role
Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards. As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously. We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams - and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications. As Mechanical Designer, you will own the design and development of mechanical parts and full assemblies for current and future drone products within Helsing's physical products and hardware engineering organisation . Working from requirements through to validated hardware, you will translate engineering constraints into robust, scalable, and cost-effective components. Your work spans the full design cycle: from concept and CAD documentation through to prototype integration and validation testing. The designs you deliver will directly determine the structural integrity, manufacturability, and operational reliability of Helsing's drone platforms. The day-to-day Own the mechanical design of drone components and full assemblies from concept to validated hardware, producing 3D models and 2D drawings that meet ASME/ISO standards and manufacturing requirements Translate comprehensive requirements sets into design concepts, applying analytical assessments to standard mechanical elements such as bolts, bearings and fittings to verify form, fit and function Build and integrate prototypes hands-on, performing structured assessments to validate robustness, usability and ruggedised characteristics under operationally relevant conditions Plan and execute validation test campaigns that drive technical maturation and reduce programme risk at each design milestone Produce comprehensive design documentation in compliance with company quality standards and PLM workflows, ensuring traceability across the full product lifecycle You should apply if you Have designed and delivered mechanical parts and assemblies for aerospace or similarly demanding applications, using 3D and 2D CAD tools such as SolidWorks/PDM or Siemens NX/Teamcenter Can apply ASME/ISO drawing standards and mechanical design standards confidently, including analytical assessment of standard mechanical components Have integrated and tested prototypes hands-on, using test outcomes to iterate and improve designs against defined requirements Communicate complex design intent clearly in written English, producing documentation that meets rigorous engineering quality standards within a PLM environment Act decisively with minimal guidance, own outcomes end-to-end and initiate solutions without waiting for direction Note: We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.
