About the role

This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH), Healthcare Services. AFRH is an independent Agency in the Executive branch of the US Government and provides residences and related services for certain retired and former members of the US Armed Forces. The primary purpose of the position is to provide professional acute and rehabilitation/restorative nursing to geriatric residents with chronic disease. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé. Specialized Experience for the GS-10: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Conducting patient/resident assessment; AND Developing and carrying out nursing care plans; AND Medication administration (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, topical, rectal, intravenous, etc.); AND Communicating patient/resident condition and changes to patient/resident, nursing personnel, physicians, and family members. OR Education: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field (e.g., chemistry, biology, microbiology). Degrees from Foreign Nursing Schools: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired. RN - For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
