About the role

We are an engineering consultancy with more than 6,000 people across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. We believe the world needs people who can engineer possibilities. They are the ones who can create infrastructure that makes life better for people and the planet. That is our purpose. Bringing ideas to life. This is The Aurecon Way. Ready for your next adventure? If this sounds like your next step, we'd love to hear from you. For recruitment adjustments, contact WorkplaceAdjustment@aurecongroup.com. Our hiring decisions are made by people, not AI. We're most interested in your individual thinking and experiences, so please ensure your application reflects your authentic perspective.

Responsibilities

  • As a Stormwater Engineer, you'll contribute to projects and programs that make a real difference and be part of a team that embraces challenges, welcomes diverse ideas, and engineer solutions with people, community and outcomes in mind. Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting a wide variety of projects in the design of stormwater systems, including pits and pipes, open channels, culverts and water quality assets
  • Undertaking hydrological and hydraulic assessments for projects from concept phase through to detailed design phase and construction support
  • Building and using models in tools such as 12d, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, DRAINS, TuFlow or ORD, with close support from senior specialists
  • Assist with preparing design calculations, flooding assessments, drawings, specifications and technical reports that clearly communicate the stormwater solution
  • Working with other disciplines (Energy, Roads, Bridges, Geotechnical, Environment, Digital) to integrate drainage outcomes into the broader project design
  • Assist liaising with State Authorities (Sydney Water, TfNSW, Sydney Trains etc.), Contractors, utility stakeholders and the like, to achieve approvals and ensure designs meet standards and client expectations
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of our stormwater tools, templates and digital workflows, including opportunities for automation.

Requirements

  • You are someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail but also understands that good stormwater design is about protecting people, places and the environment.
  • You will bring:
  • A degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Roughly 1-4 years' experience in drainage, flooding, water quality or civil design, ideally on water, energy, transport or land development projects, or an adjacent experience that you can leverage to bring our projects to life with
  • Working knowledge of Australian standards, Austroads guidance and (ideally) TfNSW or Sydney Water design requirements
  • Some experience with any individual design software, such as 12d, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, DRAINS ORD, TuFlow or bring something new that you are using and let's chat
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to quality and constructability
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and explain design decisions
  • An interest in sustainability, water quality and climate resilience, and a desire to work towards Chartered Engineer status over time.
  • How we support your growth
  • At Aurecon you'll be supported to grow your technical skills and your career, not just fill a role. You'll be part of a team recognised for innovation, sustainability and inclusive culture through multiple external awards.
  • You'll have access to:
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements so you can balance project delivery with life outside work
  • Tailored learning opportunities and support to build your drainage, flooding, civil and broader consulting skills
  • Directly working with a large and technically strong team of over 30 stormwater engineers
  • Technical communities and mentoring to further connect you with specialists across Australia, New Zealand and globally
  • A workplace that genuinely values diversity, with tangible initiatives supporting inclusion, reconciliation and wellbeing
