Grade Level (for internal use): 10 About the Role: Private Market and other Thematic Indices' data owner As a Private Market Indices data owner within the Global Index Management & Production Group (IMPG), you will be responsible for preparing, validating, and ensuring the accuracy of private equity, venture capital, private debt, and real asset data ahead of scheduled index rebalances. You will work with various datasets that include valuations, holdings, and transaction records, applying rigorous validation checks against trusted reference sources. This position is part of the Data Excellence - Fixed Income Data group, which focuses on a wide array of datasets used for the maintenance and rebalancings for S&P Private Market indices. Responsibilities and Impact: As the key point of accountability for private market data quality, you will work closely with internal and external data providers to ensure our data mastering processes deliver trusted information for rebalances , analytics, reporting, and decision-making. The Data Owner is responsible for the onboarding , management and quality of a variety of private market related data items used for the production and maintenance of S&P Dow Jones-branded indices. The successful candidate will be expected to set the standard in carrying out tasks associated with the management of private market data used for the production and maintenance of indices, setting an example for more junior analysts to follow. Additionally, the data owner is responsible for a wide range of data points across global markets and may be required to make presentations to Index Committees on matters impacting the maintenance and particularly the rebalancing of S&P DJI global indices, making in-depth knowledge of their product line essential. Own the private market data pipeline that powers investment analytics, portfolio monitoring, and strategic decision-making. Build a career at the intersection of private markets, data operations, and data governance in a high-impact, visible role. Shape and optimize validation processes that directly affect index rebalances. Gain end-to-end exposure to the private markets and thematic data lifecycle from ingestion and reconciliation through to golden source mastering and reporting. Influence data standards and governance frameworks used firmwide across private equity and thematic data. Collaborate with R&D, Operations and Technology to enhance data quality, structure, and usability. Develop deep expertise in sourcing, validating, and mastering data from multiple internal and external sources.
Responsibilities
- Data Ownership & Stewardship
- Act as the primary owner for private market investment datasets (fund, company, asset-level) across the data lifecycle.
- Define, maintain, and enforce data standards, taxonomies, and hierarchies (e.g., entity, instrument, deal structures).
- Oversee golden source mastering processes to ensure a single version of truth for private market data for both private stock and private credit.
- Data Validation & Quality Control
- Develop and execute robust validation rules for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of data from internal and external sources.
- Perform data reconciliation across multiple sources (administrators, managers, custodians, market data vendors).
- Investigate and resolve data exceptions in coordination with operations and investment teams.
- Process & Governance
- Collaborate with data automation teams to design automated validation and mastering workflows.
- Maintain detailed data dictionaries, lineage, and governance documentation for private market and thematic datasets.
- Contribute to data governance forums and enforce compliance with data policies and controls.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for private market data structure, sourcing, and usage.
- Partner with Research & Design, Product and Operations teams to ensure data meets business needs.
- Liaise with external vendors and data providers to manage SLAs, and data delivery standards.

- S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $83,313to $ 117,365. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
- In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
