Systems Technician The AV systems technician will use a documented audio-visual system design to integrate a turn-key, fully functional AV system. This includes the physical installation of equipment, cable pulls, terminations, troubleshooting, equipment configuration and quality assurance activities. The systems technician leads a crew of student technicians, providing technical training and leadership to inexperienced workers. The technician also performs on-call problem resolution. What you will be doing in this position Installation Physical installation of AV system components (projectors, TV's, racks, equipment, etc.): Understand and execute proper installation methods, following local codes and safety guidelines. Know and properly use installation tools. Connect devices together: Understand the different signal types, wire types and terminations. Configure & program AV devices. Provide quality assurance activities that ensure that the installed system is functioning as designed. Field Engineering: using best practices, codes, and industry standards, determine pathways, mounting methods, project and site logistics, etc. Supervision, Coaching, and Leadership Lead assigned student technicians in AV install. Provide on-the-job training for student technicians. Collaborate and work with other full-time technicians. Participate in and on occasion, lead team training. Manage Projects Project fulfillment: understand the scope, requirements and intended user experience of a project and then install the project according to those requirements. Coordinate with other trades when needed. System diagnostics and fault resolution On call: respond to customer calls, both remotely and in person, to resolve problems with campus AV systems (technical problems and user error). Repair AV systems: identify and correct problems in a non-functioning AV system. Professional Development and Training Participate in on-the-job learning opportunities. Take online and in-person courses in audio visual technology, methods and processes. What qualifies you for this role This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. Different levels of pay are assigned by the hiring department depending on experience/education/skills and business needs. Level 50: 1 year of related experience. ($25.00-$32.50) Level 51: 2-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of related training/education & experience. ($28.25-$36.25) Level 52: 4 years of experience or equivalent combination of related training/education & experience. ($31.25-$40.50) Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications: Technical Skills Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain audio, video, and integrated AV systems Set up and operate sound reinforcement systems, microphones, mixers, amplifiers, and speakers Install and maintain video displays, projectors, video walls, and presentation systems Configure and support AV control systems and signal distribution equipment Knowledge of analog and digital audio/video signal flow Structured cabling installation and termination (CAT5e, CAT6, fiber optic, HDMI, SDI, and related AV cabling) Utilization of AV testing, calibration, and diagnostic equipment Basic networking concepts for AV-over-IP systems (wired and wireless) Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and system diagrams Audio Visual Systems Knowledge Audio and video transmission methods, standards, and protocols Digital signal processing (DSP) concepts Video conferencing and unified communications platforms AV control systems and automation technologies Communication media, signal routing, and distribution technologies Licenses and Certifications CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) CTS-I (Certified Technology Specialist - Installation) CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Shure, Dante) OSHA Safety Training Cer
