Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with TBM logistics teams to ensure vehicle availability and reliability for continuous transport cycles.
  • Follow Ontario OHSA tunnel‑specific safety procedures, air/gas monitoring guidelines, emergency response expectations, and underground hazard controls.
  • Maintain tidy and safe underground work areas, including equipment bays, maintenance stations, and tunnel access routes.
  • Completion of a 3-4‑year apprenticeship program in industrial mechanic/millwrighting or 5+ years of experience in industrial machinery repair with industry training courses.
  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade certification (voluntary but preferred in Ontario).
  • Additional mechanical or electrical equipment certifications considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of MSV components and systems, including power units, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmission/drives, chassis, and bogeys/wheel modules.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and equipment specifications.
  • Skilled in diagnostics, mechanical troubleshooting, and heavy‑equipment repair.
  • Familiarity with underground and tunnelling operations, confined‑space work, and ventilation‑dependent environments.
  • Understanding of underground rescue procedures, emergency protocols, and air‑monitoring principles (asset but often required).
  • Ability to work underground in confined spaces, elevated noise, dust, and variable temperatures.
  • Physically capable of lifting, climbing, crawling, and performing repairs in restricted spaces.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with operators and tunnel crews.
