Requirements

  • Mechanical machining (conventional, CNC).
  • Mechanical assembly.
  • Mechanical design with CATIA, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Operation of vacuum systems.
  • Writing of reports.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
  • Eligibility criteria:
  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanics Manufacturing (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma .
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

  • Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Additional Information

As part of the Vacuum, surfaces and coatings group of the Technology Department, you will join the teams applying thin carbon coatings in the beam line of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during the next Long Shutdown. After an initial on-the-field training, you will take part in the mechanical assembly, commissioning and operation of the vacuum coating systems.
