As our Hosting Systems Engineer you'll be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and managing the infrastructure that powers web services, applications, and customer data. This role sits at the intersection of system administration, infrastructure, and cloud technology, ensuring that hosted systems remain available, secure, and efficient. Within this role responsibilities will include the management and optimisation of NEXTDC computing and storage infrastructure, including Active Directory, Windows (and/or other systems) Server environments, and Hyper-V virtualisation. The role will drive the overall health and performance of NEXTDC systems, designing solutions for scalability and high availability, supporting Azure integrations, and managing storage solutions. Your scope will cover: Designing and implementing scalable solutions for Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022), Active Directory, and Hyper-V virtualisation Overseeing the architecture, maintenance, and optimisation of Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and FSMO roles Developing and testing disaster recovery plans, manage backups (SAN), configure failover clusters, and ensure minimal downtime in case of system failures Monitoring system health for reliability, scalability, and security and provide advanced troubleshooting for complex system issues; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks Leading automation initiatives using PowerShell to streamline system management and improve operational efficiency Executing security measures, including role-based access control, encryption (BitLocker), and compliance with auditing standards Performing patch management using WSUS or SCCM, ensuring secure and timely deployment of updates and addressing vulnerabilities Supporting hybrid cloud initiatives, including Azure AD integration, cloud backup, and cloud-to-on-premises connectivity Your technical skillset will include: Strong knowledge of Linux, Unix, and Windows Server systems Proficient in Windows Server administration and Active Directory management Expertise in Hyper-V, storage solutions (SAN, NAS, iSCSI, RAID), and PowerShell scripting Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls), patch management (WSUS, SCCM), and security tools (Windows Defender, role-based access control) Scripting/Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools like Ansible Familiarity with disaster recovery, backup solutions Knowledge of Azure hybrid environments, incl. integration 5 years of experience in Wintel Engineering or Active Directory administration, or related experience in Hosting or computing and storage functions Proven experience in troubleshooting complex, optimising Windows Server environments, AD, and Hyper-V infrastructures Industry-standard certifications such as MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate), MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert), or Azure Administrator Associate Additional certifications in networking (e.g., CCNA), virtualisation (e.g., VMware certifications), or security (e.g., CISSP, Security+) are highly desirable Opportunity to be a vital part of NEXTDC and the expanding Data Centre world Inclusive, diverse and values-driven working culture Great opportunities to progress within our company (grow as we grow) Our mission is to continue building a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents the communities in which we operate.
