Tokamak Energy is a global leader in fusion energy and high temperature superconducting (HTS) technologies. We operate through three divisions: Fusion - Fusion energy technologies, expertise and testbeds for government and private fusion programmes, including ST40, the world's highest field spherical tokamak. TE Magnetics - HTS systems for commercial applications including fusion energy, power distribution, life sciences, and propulsion. Ridgway Machines - Manufacturing equipment for the superconducting, electrical and wider energy sectors, enabling the rapid industrialisation of HTS products. The role We are now looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our Technical Engineering team, supporting a wide range of cutting-edge projects across our fusion and magnet programmes. We're interested in well-rounded, hands-on technicians who enjoy variety and problem-solving - not individuals who have only worked on repetitive production tasks. This is a hands-on, varied position where no two days are the same. You'll work across multiple systems and projects, supporting engineers and scientists with build, installation, maintenance and upgrades. You'll be part of a highly collaborative team working on complex experimental equipment and systems, including our flagship ST40 tokamak. Key responsibilities: Mechanical assembly, installation and integration of engineering systems Supporting maintenance, upgrades and fault-finding across a variety of equipment Working from engineering drawings and schematics Providing general engineering support across projects and programmes Collaborating with engineers, scientists and other technicians Maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to H&S standards Taking ownership of work areas, tools, and equipment quality Essential: Apprenticeship-trained Experience in mechanical fitting, repair, servicing or maintenance Ability to read and work from engineering drawings Flexible, proactive and able to adapt to changing priorities Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail Good understanding of health & safety practices Desirable Maintenance or multi-skilled engineering background Experience in R&D, scientific, or highly regulated environments Exposure to vacuum systems, cryogenics or precision engineering Salary range up to £45,000 dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed from the outset 25 days holiday + bank holidays, plus discretionary festive shutdown Performance-led rewards including discretionary bonus, innovation and merit schemes Share options - a stake in our future success Pension and comprehensive financial protection package including death in service and critical illness cover Health and wellbeing support, including cash plan and 24/7 assistance Ongoing investment in your growth with training and career progression Be part of world-changing innovation in Fusion Energy Important information for candidates No terminology in the advert or job description is intended to discriminate on the grounds of a person's age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
