The Energy Office also provides energy and performance tracking, program assessment, scientific research, emergency planning and internal auditing services to DEP's operating bureaus. The Deputy Director of Energy Projects will report directly to the Director of the Energy Office to advance critical energy efficiency and renewable generation projects. This role will collaborate closely with operating bureaus to identify measures, secure funding and ensure project delivery advances on schedule. The selected candidate will identify potential projects by overseeing or leading audits, attending internal project scoping meetings, or identifying measures through site visits. The Deputy Director of Energy Projects will also be responsible for compliance with energy-related local laws. This role will engage with external partners including DCAS Division of Energy Management, the New York Power Authority, and project consultants/contractors to advance Energy Office goals. Preferred Skills: - Masters degree in environmental engineering, water resources management, or a related field. - 7+ years experience in wastewater management, process optimization, or a closely related field. - In-depth knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and environmental regulations pertaining to water resources. - Demonstrated experience optimizing wastewater treatment processes. - Familiarity with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in water conservation, wastewater management, and sustainability. - Familiarity with New York City energy code and local laws related to energy - Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to save energy across operational processes and systems. - Ability to make recommendations for process improvements and drive operational innovations. - Familiar with energy modeling and Green House Gas (GHG) accounting, specifically as related to the wastewater treatment process and its byproducts.
