About the role

This position aims to provide Addiction Psychiatry Specialist Services to the Department by providing excellence in Consultation Liaison for inpatients, addiction outpatients and Depaul House residential withdrawal unit inpatient care as required. The Addiction Psychiatry Registrar is employed through the St Vincent's Department of Addiction Medicine, and participates in an Addiction Medicine Training Program approved by the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine, Royal College of Physicians as well as the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). The position will provide training experience at St Vincent's Department of Addiction Medicine Department and, as appropriate, at other external agencies that provide drug and alcohol services and with whom St Vincent's Department of Addiction Medicine collaborates. The Registrar will be accountable for the delivery of clinical services to the patients with drug and/or alcohol problems, through providing high quality clinical services, contributing to service evaluation and research and displaying a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in Addiction Medicine. When employed on external rotations outside St Vincent's, the Registrar will provide care to patients under the supervision of Addiction Medicine specialists. The role includes exposure to general addiction outpatients, clinical liaison on inpatient wards, inpatient withdrawal management, opioid agonist treatment including long acting formulations of buprenorphine, dual diagnosis, pain medicine, correctional health, as well as external rotations to youth services and women's services.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake inpatient ward service in Addiction Medicine as per rostered activities.
  • When on inpatient ward service undertake 1 full round at least once per week.
  • Undertake outpatient clinics.
  • Provide support to the unit Junior Medical Staff (JMS) during business hours.
  • Assist in the achievement of the department's activity and quality targets
  • Make an active contribution to medical student education and post graduate education sessions
  • Provide mentorship to the Junior Medical Staff of the Department.
  • Participate in Clinical Research Projects relevant to Addiction Medicine.
  • Participate in the implementation of relevant policies and procedures within the Department and the Hospital as required
  • Classifications for this position will range from HM25 - HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12 per annum, pro-rata for part time)

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent
  • Registration with AHPRA
  • Applicants must be registered medical practitioners in Australia or New Zealand and be registered as a Trainee of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).
  • Psychiatry Registrars must have completed Stage 2 of the RANZCP Fellowship program.
