Veolia Canada operates and maintains both the drinking water treatment plant and wastewater treatment plant in Moosonee, Ontario. This Water and Wastewater Operator position is located in Moosonee, ON, and requires the successful candidate to relocate to the community. A northern living allowance and accommodation is provided for working in Moosonee. The Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of both water and wastewater treatment facilities and must therefore hold valid water treatment and wastewater treatment certifications. Key responsibilities include conducting laboratory testing, making operational decisions, utilizing SCADA systems, preparing regulatory reports, operating treatment equipment, and maintaining effective communication with team members Main Responsibilities: Adjusts, inspects and evaluates processes and equipment that control the operation and effectiveness of water and wastewater systems (WWT, WWC, WT, WD) in order to optimize performance, maintain regulatory compliance, and minimize local and/or system wide adverse impacts while taking into consideration cost, equipment capabilities, environmental impacts and OH&S. Operates and monitors the performance of system process equipment and related appurtenances, including but not limited to valves, gates, pumps, compressors, engines, electric motors/generators, HVAC systems, chemical dosing equipment, etc. Makes process adjustments, operational decisions and addresses/responds to alarm conditions to ensure efficient, compliant and safe operation within established performance, regulatory and quality limits. Maintains records and documentation of all process and/or work area activities using either manual or computerized systems including but not limited to plant logbooks, computerized databases, etc. Accountable for the efficient operation, in compliance with applicable regulations, of all processes within the water and wastewater systems as well as for personal performance and promoting optimal team performance. Collects samples, performs routine laboratory tests, analysis and calculations, and records results. Interprets laboratory results (internal and external) and makes adjustments as necessary. Identifies changes in operational conditions and interprets information in order to implement corrective actions and/or troubleshoot process issues. Utilizes various tools to perform operational duties including but not limited to Process Control System (PCS), other SCADA systems, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Work Management System (WMS). Performs preventative maintenance diagnostics, and routine preventative maintenance duties such as monitoring equipment for excessive vibration or high temperatures. Monitors and assesses equipment performance and maintains process operations by using CLAIR (clean, lubricate, adjust, inspect, repair). Familiarity with environmental regulations applicable to the operation of water and wastewater facilities. Valid Ontario Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment certificate(s). Certificates from outer Provinces (or from US states) can be converted into Ontario. Valid Class G Driver's License. Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance and assessment is very welcome Knowledge of record keeping, sampling techniques and analytical procedures including the ability to interpret and make process adjustments. Ability to, and knowledge of, occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary to work in water and wastewater facilities including but not limited to, chemical handling, confined space entry, lockout/tag-out and the use of personal protective equipment required to work safely. Basic computer skills including ability to use basic word processing, email and spreadsheet software programs. Post-Secondary Education in an Environmental program would be an asset. Post-Secondary Education in a Technical Trade (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) would be an asset. An ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills. An ability to work well in a team. An interest in continuous learning. An ability to continually grow skills; transferring new knowledge into practical abilities.
