JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Chief Capital Planning and Development Officer, the Manager, Electrical & Communications Systems is responsible for planning, upgrading, integrating, maintaining, and optimizing CHEO's electrical and non-IT communications infrastructure. This includes high and low voltage critical electrical systems, emergency power, lighting, structured cabling, patient entertainment, nurse calls, monitoring stations etc. This leadership role ensures infrastructure safety, reliability, compliance, supports operational readiness, and business continuity. The Manager works closely with facilities operation and maintenance team, capital projects team and clinical operations team, to ensure seamless systems integration and performance. The candidate will also act as electrical infrastructure subject matter expert (SME) for facilities operations and maintenance work and redevelopment projects. This role is ideal for candidates with demonstrated experience in electrical systems engineering , b uilding engineering and cross-functional technical team leadership. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Ottawa. POSITION SUMMARY Electrical & Communications Systems Oversight: Oversee compliance of all existing electrical and non-IT communication infrastructure, including distribution, transformers, switchgear, emergency generators, transfer switches, wiring, and distribution panels, structured cabling, monitoring stations, nurse call, access control system, and low-voltage control panels etc., to CSA, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, TSSA, TIA, EIA and all other applicable codes, standards and regulations. Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability: Plan and develop preventative maintenance program including method of procedures (MOPs) for electrical high-voltage and low-voltage electrical and communication systems . Ensure up-to-date as-built drawings, single-line diagrams and schedules for regular and emergency power. Manage system troubleshooting and incident response. As a subject matter expert (SME), provide technical advice to operations and maintenance team of technicians and external contractors where required, ensure conformance to relevant codes, standards and regulations. Monitor electrical systems performance and implement corrective actions as needed. Capital Project Support and Commissioning: Develop technical scope of work and specifications for building electrical infrastructure and communication systems renewal projects. As a subject matter expert (SME), provide technical advice to projects team where required, ensure conformance to relevant codes, standards and regulations. Participate in technical design reviews and ensure compliance with base building standards and integration with existing systems.
