About the role
The Staff Board Design Engineer will be responsible for translating the System and Architectural Specifications into actual designs. This translation includes authoring/contributing to a detailed Design Spec and schematics as well as collaborating with Power Engineers, Signal Integrity Engineers, and PC Board Layout Engineers to generate physical instantiation. Board DEs participate in power on planning and are active in the lab during power on and board level testing as well as driving debug and root cause analysis. Other responsibilities for this position include working directly with our customers and core technology suppliers to understand and solve technical problems facing the customer.
Responsibilities
- Develops server motherboards and add-in cards from definition through schematics, PCB Layout/CAD, and HW Verification in the lab.
- Develops/implements repeatable design processes, looking for ways to improve quality and reduce risk and opportunities for errors. Practices "continual process improvement"
- Develop technical relationships with the System Architecture Team.
- Collaborate with the appropriate BIOS/FW teams to establish the I/O pin definitions and ensure the HW Design Specification accurately defines them.
- Create consistent, human readable schematics
- Design with high quality and cost-effective solutions in mind. Avoid unnecessary or unessential features and understand when a novel solution is the correct choice.
- Drive design through new product development life cycle from concept through planning and development.
- Lead feasibility studies of system level concepts.
- Drive prototyping or proof of concepts of new technologies .
- What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required, Master's degree preferred
- 5+ years of direct industry experience required (3+ years with a MS degree)
- Solid grasp of analog and digital circuit theory and principles.
- Strong background and experience with high-speed signal design implementation, power distribution techniques, and Intel/AMD/ARM/GPU platform architectures.
- Experience with implementation of high-speed serial buses and Fabrics (SAS/SATA, PCIe, InfiniBand, Fibre Channel, Ethernet, etc.), high speed Memory Buses (DDR4, DDR5, HBM2), and Processor/Accelerator Cache Coherent Links (CCIX, GenZ , CXL).
- Strong knowledge of the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) functionality and the ability to enable it.
- Demonstrated ability to create detailed design specifications and develop test plans for new product features.
