Under the general guidance of the Director of Finance, the Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the accounting team. This role ensures the consistent accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting and accounting functions. The Assistant Director of Finance helps maintain a highly productive, compliant, and well-trained accounting staff while providing essential support to the Director of Finance in achieving financial goals, operational efficiencies, and compliance with company and regulatory standards. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for overseeing all accounting and finance duties, including any on-site food and beverage operations. Duties include full-cycle month-end close, preparation offinancial statements, complex account analysis and reconciliations, as well as budgeting and forecasting. Ensure data integrity and accuracy across all financial reporting, while developing and documenting system controls, standard operating procedures, and continuous business process improvements. Support the implementation and upgrades of front-of-house systems impacting financial reporting and operations. Assist the Director of Finance with planning, recruiting, and hiring of the property's finance and accounting team. Oversee training, cross-training, and development of all accounting staff to ensure a highly competent and flexible team. Take prompt and appropriate personnel actions related to staffing, performance management, and discipline to ensure departmental success. Perform timely and accurate month-end closing procedures, including balance sheet account reconciliation and financial analysis. Manage payroll entries, coordinate with HR and payroll providers, and support year-end audits and other compliance requirements. Supervise, manage, and mentor accounting staff, providing technical guidance, professional development, and performance evaluations. Monitor budget compliance, support cost control measures, and assist in training operational leaders on financial management practices and tools. Ensure legal, treasury, and tax documentation is properly maintained and secured; comply with all statutory and fiscal reporting obligations, including any relevant governmental permits and licenses. Assist the Director of Finance in maintaining hotel compliance with all regulatory requirements, contracts, leases, tax filings, and legal obligations. Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned by the Director of Finance or senior leadership team. We recognize we are in the hospitality industry and that may require us to provide lateral service. We will on occasion call for each individual in the team to on a routine basis perform various related tasks as needed in the spirit of providing exceptional guest service. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred. Minimum five years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least two years in a hotel or hospitality setting and one to two years in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong understanding of hotel accounting principles, including full-cycle month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and cash flow management. Proficient in accounting systems and hotel property management systems (e.g., Opera, SunSystems, M3, BirchStreet, or similar). Excellent knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls; experience with audit preparation and financial compliance practices. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to interpret and present financial data clearly. Effective leadership and team management abilities, including experience training, mentoring, and evaluating accounting staff. High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling; strong skills in Word and PowerPoint. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate financial information clearly and concisely to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Discretion, professionalism, and integrity in handling confidential and sensitive financial information. Knowledge of hotel operations and interdepartmental functions to support effective financial decision-making and cross-functional collaboration. Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including tax, labor, and licensing laws. All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
