Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Sports Leader is responsible for leading and supervising sports-related day camp programming. Collaborate cooperatively with all day camp staff to support the successful delivery, safety, and overall operation of the summer day camp program. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Plan, organize, and lead engaging, safe, and active sports-focused day camp programming for children and youth. Provide leadership, training, guidance, and ongoing support to staff involved in sports programming and activities. Foster a fun, positive, and inclusive camp environment that promotes teamwork, participation, good sportsmanship, and respect among all campers. Ensure the physical safety and well-being of campers and staff by following established safety procedures, risk management practices, and program policies. Prepare, organize, and maintain sports equipment, activity spaces, and program materials to ensure safe and effective program delivery. Adapt activities to meet the varying ages, abilities, and needs of campers to encourage inclusion and engagement. Monitor and supervise campers during sports activities, transitions, and outdoor play, responding appropriately to incidents, conflicts, or emergencies; act in urgent or emergency situations in accordance with camp policies and procedures, and promptly inform the Recreation Manager of any staff or camper concerns or issues. Clearly communicate directions for program activities. Ensure the highest standard of health and safety for all campers, volunteers, and staff. Assist with ensuring the emotional wellness and personal development of campers. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Support campers to develop socially, mentally, and spiritually. Participate in the Summer Day Camp mentoring program for Day Camp staff and campers. Know and act in accordance with policies and procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of campers and information. Perform other relevant duties as assigned, i.e., set-up, and camp cleanup. Perform other related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week. Working environment is in a day camp setting both indoor and outdoor in generally agreeable conditions with the following exceptions, exposure to tantrums and noise. Ability to lift, carry or move up to 29 lbs. without assistance from others. This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time. Some flexibility in scheduling is required Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break. The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria: aged 17 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; a valid Social Insurance Number; be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
